TRANS PARENT: Krista Whitley’s Journey as the Parent of a Trans Child

0

There are certain characteristics that unite all parents. We want our children to be healthy. To be safe. To grow into mature, capable adults. As a mother, I’m no different from any parent who wants all of those things for my children. I was so thrilled to have two capable, amazing daughters and now that has changed. Our youngest child announced his decision to transition and we could not possibly be prouder. That we have two children under 13 who are already so clear on who they authentically are is one of my greatest accomplishments as a parent. Ultimately, I just want them to grow into adults who make the world a better place.

I appreciate that not every family is in the position to be fully transparent about their journey. Kai, our almost 12 year old trans son, decided he wanted to share his story to inspire others. He’s such a generous, thoughtful leader, so whatever we can do to support him is what we’re going to do. We’re learning through this journey, so I invite you to join our family along the way. I hope you are inspired, educated, and encouraged by our story. Welcome!
